Saying No to These 5 Things Could Improve Your Health

The power of no

We spend the first half of life saying yes — to requests, to obligations, to the endless doing. The second half can be the return of the no. Not from bitterness, but from a clearer sense of what your one life is actually for.

Five things to release

The need to be liked by everyone. It cost you decades and bought nothing. The guilt of resting. Your body knows what it needs; learn to obey it. Other people's opinions of your body. It carried you this far — that's enough. The obligation to host. Entertain when it brings joy, not when it's expected. The fantasy of the perfect relationship. Real connection is imperfect and daily; that's its beauty.

The reward

What returns when you set these down is space — for the few things, and the few people, that genuinely fill you. That space, guarded, is the shape of a good later life.
